Over the past four decades, Oy Martinex Ab has grown from a Finnish household goods company into an international brand house, with its operations firmly rooted in in-house design and long-term development. Martinex is home to Peliko, which specialises in board games, and the Finnish design icon Aarikka. The company is also one of the longest-standing Moomin licensees and has been producing Moomin products under the Moomin by Martinex brand for more than 30 years.

To mark its anniversary, the company wished to make a contribution that would support the wellbeing, competitiveness and renewal of Finnish society. Establishing a special fund within the Foundation for Economic Education was a natural choice for Martinex. Chair of the Board Risto Muinonen, Managing Director Riia Sandström and Deputy Managing Director Jenni Jalava have longstanding ties with the Foundation: Risto Muinonen has served as a member of the Foundation for Economic Education’s Turku Regional Committee for 60 years, while Riia Sandström and Jenni Jalava have been members for nearly ten years. This shared history reinforced their confidence that the support would be allocated with expertise and impact.
The development of the commerce sector, research and education are important themes for Martinex. Through the Foundation for Economic Education, support is directed towards business and economics research, education and the renewal of the business community in a way that also builds expertise for future generations.
The founders of the Martinex Aarikka Fund wish to promote the commercialisation and development of Finnish design. Their aim is to support researchers and projects whose work can create new opportunities for Finnish design, expertise and international growth.
For Martinex, establishing the special fund is a way to act responsibly and strengthen the values on which the company’s own operations have also been built: long-term commitment, expertise and confidence in Finnish work. Through the Fund, the support given to mark the anniversary will extend into the future and foster development capable of generating lasting impact.
