Research group projects emphasize leadership, responsibility and growth
In the grant round 2020 in total 608 applications were received, amounting to a total of EUR 22.87 million. The search was again guided by the fund’s five focus areas, which are interlinked and reflect the change in the operating environment. The grant focus areas of the Foundation for Economic Education are data economy, business renewal, future-sustainable environment, leadership competence, and entrepreneurship, scaling and growth. The focus areas are in common future-oriented with an emphasis on responsibility and entrepreneurial ecosystems.
The fund’s board has on November 26 awarded grants to 291 projects, totaling EUR 4.437,700. The grants cover 19.4 % of the amount requested. Within the focus areas of the Foundation for Economic Education, the most grants were awarded to projects dealing with future-sustainable environment, business renewal, and entrepreneurship, scaling and growth.
The Foundation for Economic Education supports researchers in the midst of a corona pandemic. Global political, economic and ecological changes are influencing and obliging us to act more purposefully. In particular, the support for three-year research group projects started in the 2019 anniversary year of the LSR 100 enables long-term work and increases the effectiveness of research in the long term. In the category of the research group, 15 innovative projects with the amount total of EUR 1.17 million received a grant. Projects this year emphasized leadership, responsibility and growth.
In the pooled funds that complement the focus areas of the Foundation for Economic Education, earmarked funds were targeted to 22 projects for a total of EUR 314,000. The pooled funds thematically bring together a number of targets set by donors, typically close to science or industry.

In accordance with its rules, the Foundation for Economic Education supports higher economic education, which is developed at the university level. The aim is to promote Finland’s economic growth and the competitiveness of business in particular.
